The Commander's Confederate Comments:

Dear Compatriots,

As you probably already know our Darlington billboard was removed on June 16th by Palmetto Outdoor Media due to cancellation of their land lease contract by SC Central Railroad. SC Central owns the right of way where the sign was located. The railroad found our sign offensive and demanded that it be removed.

We are in the initial stages of investigating our options in regard to the Darlington County / Nascar billboard. An attorney who is a member of our Division and has First Amendment Rights violations experience with the Supreme Court is studying the possibilities of legal action. These things take time so please be patient. We are not dragging our feet or wasting time.

The Division is in the process of leasing another sign on I-95. Why not Hwy 52 near the other sign? Most of those signs are on railroad right of way. Those that are not had already previously turned us down. Why not rent a piece of land from a farmer and install our own billboard? SC passed a law limiting the number of billboards on our highways years ago. No more new signs can be installed. In fact the sign taken down by Palmetto Outdoor Media that contained our ad can never be reinstalled because it fell under the grandfather clause.

I can assure you we are working on the situation. Let us do the job you elected us to do. Be patient, these things take time.

Respectfully Yours,

Randall B. Burbage
