Signer's Monument
On December 20, 1860, 170 men chosen by a special state-wide election, carefully and deliberately decided in convention that South Carolina would secede from the Union. These were the first to exclaim “NO MORE!” to an increasingly overbearing and oppressive federal government.
Unanimous in their decision, by signing the Ordinance, each delegate put his life and fortunes in jeopardy for the people of our state.

The South Carolina Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will erect a monument in honor of these patriots during the Sesquicentennial to be located in Charleston.
